How do you turn a captivating idea into a viable documentary film?

This one-day workshop will introduce students with no or minimal experience to the crucial issues of producing and directing a documentary, including selecting a provocative topic, researching the subject, writing a proposal, fundraising, preproduction, casting, directing, shooting, interview techniques, ethics, editing and distribution. 

Students are encouraged to bring a one page description of their ideas for feedback.

Christopher Metzler is an award winning documentary filmmaker. His fims PLAGUES & PLEASURES ON THE SALTON SEA and EVERYDAY SUNSHINE: THE STORY OF FISHBONE both screened at the Tallgrass FIlm Festival.
